KTCS Radio Station in Fort Smith, Arkansas hosted the 2015 Ashley Furniture HomeStore Make-A-Wish Radio-A-Thon on Friday, April 10. After six weeks of fundraisers across the area, the team at KTCS wrote a check to Make-A-Wish Foundation for $121,458 to help fulfill the wishes of 24 children with life-threatening medical conditions.
“The KTCS Radio-A-Thon fundraiser is a culmination of all kinds of fundraisers. We’ve got people doing events, fishing tournaments, and we have schools that are raising money. Then there are businesses that do workplace giving or payroll deduction, so there all kinds of ways to give,” stated Development Director Amy Westlake.
This year, all 24 kids who are in the Make-A-Wish program will receive their wish, which will be covered from the funds raised through KTCS and surrounding communities. The average wish for each child costs around $5,000. One young man received his wish, which was to get a pair of Beats headphones and go on a shopping spree, on Saturday, April 11, 2015.
Make-A-Wish Foundation inspires not only the children whose wishes they grant, but the communities in which they live as well. This organization views granting wishes as much more than giving gifts, trips, shopping sprees, and concerts. Each wish granted affects wish kids, volunteers, families, sponsors, communities, and medical professionals.
Make-A-Wish kid, Landon Cates said, “After you go through everything, it shows you that people really do care about you’re going through and what’s happened to you.”
